The Galaxy S9 will probably break when dropped, even with thicker glass and stronger metal

Samsung’s brand new Galaxy S9 was discovered to be moderately durable by JerryRigEverything previous week although significantly, the YouTube channel did not do some fall testing. For that, we use consumer electronics warranty provider SquareTrade who on Monday, released the end result of its breakability tests on the innovative S9.

The great news for potential customers and Samsung would be that the S9 proved stronger than both Galaxy S8 and also the iPhone X. The bad news? It still breaks over the first fall. Such was true in controlled drops (face down, back down and also on the side) originating from a height of 6 feet onto concrete as observed in the clip below.

In bend tests, the S9 bent under 230 pounds of stress even though the bigger S9+ caved at 210 pounds. In the tumble test, both cell phones exhibited hairline cracks and corner injury after a 60-second run.

Overall, the Galaxy S9 had a breakability score of seventy-one (medium risk) while the S9+ garnered a score of seventy-six (medium-high risk).

Jason Siciliano, global creative director at SquareTrade, stated that with the S9+ and S9, and last year’s iPhone X, we are continuing to visit a pattern of gorgeous all-glass designs that are included with a significant price tag along with a high risk of harm from mishaps and drops.

Siciliano adds that the tests of theirs and claims data suggest that even when in circumstances, such phones continue to be experiencing damage. “So, while water resistance has improved across the board, all of that glass means that durability has actually gone back over the past year.”
