Samsung DeX Confirmed: Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus Docking Station Available For Pre-order Now
What is the DeX Docking Station?
Samsung has confirmed the cost and release of its new Samsung DeX docking station, with this latest innovative gadget available for pre-order now.
The Samsung DeX enables users to turn their Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus phones into a desktop computer and attach peripherals such as a keyboard for a full PC experience, supporting the credibility of rumors circulating over previous weeks.
The brand new Galaxy S8 series is definitely powerful enough to fire up a PC-like experience and the Samsung DeX makes this a reality. Cost and specification information for the Samsung DeX leaked last week ahead of the Official unveiling, however not much information was available regarding the DeX docking station at that point.
Samsung offered additional information about this device when it unveiled the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, stating that the Samsung DeX station will maximize the devices potential and enable an excellent PC experience.
“Leveraging the processing power of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus for enhanced productivity, Samsung DeX is a unique solution that transforms these Android-based smartphones into secure desktops,” Samsung touts. “With DeX, users can easily display and edit data from their phone, making working from a smartphone on the go faster and smarter.”
Samsung DeX Price And Release
Samsung has officially listed the DeX docking station on its website with the gadget now available for pre-order at $149.99, ready to ship in “late April.”
The Corporation doesn’t tell us the release date, but the Samsung DeX docking station will likely become available at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones, which will hit store shelves globally on April 28th. US consumers will get their hands on the smartphones a week earlier, on April 21st. Leading us to believe the DeX Docking station could be available for U.S. customers earlier than other markets.
The Samsung DeX docking station is particularly interesting because it brings a brand new custom interface based on Android. This appears to have a similar appearance to the instantly recognizable Microsoft Windows Operating System. The U.I. is specially designed to work well with a keyboard and mouse. Samsung has also teamed up with Adobe and Microsoft to ensure DeX Docking Station compatibility with Microsoft Office and Adobe mobile apps, including Lightroom Mobile and Acrobat Reader.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Desktop Like Experience
“The Samsung DeX Station enables you to turn your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus into a true desktop PC experience,” reads the description on the official Samsung DeX product page. “By docking the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ into the DeX Station, your phone will launch a special DeX mode on the connected external monitor and applications can be opened in multiple separate windows. Connect a mouse, keyboard, and Ethernet cable for added productivity.”
The Samsung DeX docking station is only compatible with the latest Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 smartphones, but it would be a surprise if future flagships weren’t also compatible.
The docking station is available for $149.99 at this moment in time. However Samsung might offer it as a packaged bundle in some markets in late April, when release date approaches for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
